A place for couples, business travellers, and families (with kids).
A unique decor created almost entirely of up-cycled and recycled materials.

The home was built in the 1950’s by Ahgie (Lyga) Johnson. Ahgie’s father was Roy M. Lyga, the long-time proprietor of Lyga’s Store which operated on Main (officially Washington Street). In 1908 Roy began his mercantile career as a clerk in his father’s store. With silver hair but gold in his heart, all his grand-children called him “Daddy Roy”.

DaddyRoy’s is located at the entryway to Independence on Highway 93 / 121, a few minutes away from the beautifully restored St. Peter & Paul Church.

With an overall vintage vibe as a common theme in our décor, you’ll find something charming in every room. Our favorite room is the bright and cheery breezeway, with orange doors and 70’s floral print. In the summer it serves as an informal guest sitting room. The spacious living room and dining room are combined as one great room. This area has several windows and is a light drenched space perfect for those seeking peace and tranquility, to read, watch movies, or just watch the world go by. The new flat screen TV comes with access to Amazon Prime and Apple TV (including multiple movies) is provided.

The dining table expands to seat six. The kitchen includes a banquette seating area for five framed by a large picture window.

The entrance area host an outdoor patio table and four cushioned chairs set under an awning for perfect shade when dining or entertaining guests. The back yard has a large oversized deck, hammock and other lawn furniture is in the garage, and is made available to longer term renters upon request.

Daddy Roy’s is always accommodating and the perfect size and space for families big and small.

Great communication and easy check in process!

Super cute and spacious. Everything was very clean and had all the conveniences of home. Decor is awesome and inviting! Would stay again!

Ellen’s house has everything you will need for a short or long term stay in the Indyee area.

The B&V was a great location during our stay in Independence. We especially enjoyed the backyard and walks around the neighborhood.

Other things to note

Commitment to the Environment

We hope you’ll appreciate our quest for comfort combined with ecologically minded products and community minded practices. We have an entire closet off the kitchen dedicated to recycling with with clearly labeled containers. We feature many reused “upcycled” items: from the coffee tables in the living room made out of old suitcases, to the 1940’s lard cans from the Olde Creamery which we’ve turned into end tables in the breezeway.

Some of our other environmental practices include:

  • A two day minimum for all guests to reduce environmental impact. This is particularly important at DaddyRoys’s B&V since we wash all our linens between guests.
  • Energy efficient light bulbs
  • Ceiling fans in the living room, breezeway, bedrooms with additional floor fans available. Enjoy the great Burnside breeze and reduce the need for air conditioning in the summer months
  • A good old fashioned clothes line located in the back yard just off the laundry room.
  • No Smoking. There is a strict no smoking policy within the B&V.
